Shireman's clinic is the only vet service that I will use in Richland Center they are very caring to my animals. The only other vet service in Richland Center mis-diagnosed my other cat and it killed her. I highly recommed Shireman's
If you have horses don't waste your time here. VERY disappointed with what happened to us today. New to the area and had tried to get these guys out for a horse that was colicking and they didn't have time to come out. They did however get us banamine to get her through it and since we knew what we were doing that turned out fine. However, my husband tried going back to them because our mare aborted her pregnancy and wasn't cleaning properly. I was out of town and had no idea what was going on. He was told to leave her for 24 hours (dangerous), put on shoulder length gloves and reach in to start pulling (not a great idea) and if nothing works go in for oxytocin in the morning (should have been that night). I stayed up all night with my mare hoping she would pass it because by the time I got home there was no way to get the meds needed. Today we went in right away when they opened because she hadn't cleaned yet, we were told the vets were in a clinic meeting and couldn't be interrupted to sell us the Oxytocin. So we waited over an hour to get the medicine that we needed. They sold my husband the one shot and sent him on his way telling him there was no need for a flush because it was too cold out. I was incredibly uncomfortable with how this was happening so I called our vet from before we moved, he said there was no way she should have been left that long to do this by herself, oxytocin should have been given the night before but that up to three doses should be on hand in case one didn't work and told us that she probably would need a flush, but had hoped to avoid it if she cleaned quickly. Long story short, after one shot the mare didn't clean, I went to the vet to get more, they were hesitant to sell the oxytocin to me, I asked them for Exceed, an antibiotic to protect the mare that their advice had put in danger, I was told by the vet that he had never been to our farm in his life so why should he sell me the antibiotic. I had tried to have them out before, they had declined because they were too busy. I understand not taking checks or creating charge accounts based on that principle, but this was ridiculous. They were not going to help us. In the end we not only had to have the afterbirth removed by a true vet, and he said that she would not have passed it on her own because it was still attached, we had her flushed to prevent the infection that was a very likely possibility. Two things that were "not needed" according to this vet. Very poor service. I think the worst part is they never offered to come out to look at her, just oh you haven't been here before, sucks to be you.
The veterinarians at Shireman have always been very helpful to me. I have been taking my pets there for close to 30 years and they have always been there for me.
This painful surgery requires expert, extended pain management. Sadly, not all practitioners administer the required pain control medication following the procedure.
One of the reasons behind the controversy is that many cat owners think of declawing as a “super manicure.” However, cats’ nails are deeply embedded into the bone, and declawing requires the amputation of the last joint in every toe.
Feline declawing is banned in over 37 countries and in several California cities. Although this surgery is legal throughout the rest of the United States and Canada, it remains controversial for both veterinarians and cat owners.
Fortunately for our kitties, there are a growing number of veterinarians today who work hard to educate clients and the public about the physical and emotional risks involved in declawing surgery. Many veterinarians refuse to perform this unnecessary procedure and consider it inhumane.
